Well maybe one day you'll be the one making millions on a crappy idea. I know it's my dream in life. We all want to cash in on a dumb thought.

I *was* going to tackle a dinotopia rant, but this puts any lame rant I could have come up with to shame. everything you say is true.

this is what i want to know: when the people that make these crap tv shows are making them, do they thikn that they're good? like, does someone actually say, a ping pong playing dinosaur?! what a great idea! or are they really just doing to make money? well thats my crappy contribution. ella

Dinotopia the movie sucks, yes, the book they were 'adapted' from rocks so much. It's a shame they butchered it so much. Andrew, you should get a hold of a copy (it's by James Gurney, 1992) then you can rant not only about the lame show but also the inconsistencies with the story :)

i dunno, from the <a href="http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=3d655d31daf8e17226edeeb7983bee0f&threadid=114954">sdmb</a> it didn't sound too bad. also wasn't there a dinosaur sitcom on awhile ago, too?

I don't really know the smdb at all, but I never take anything I read on intenret message boards seriously ever ever ever!

josh - 2002-05-15 04:11:12
You mean that show "Dinosaurs"? Yeah, but it didn't take itself seriously. Unlike "Dinotopia" (the mini-series), "Dinosaurs" wasn't unintentional comedy. ^_^

Andrew, the shows aren't even like the books. The books are waaaaayyyy (said "wah-hey) better.

Andrew--First, congrats on Diaryland--what a clever concept! Second, get a copy of the first Dinotopia book. Nothing on film or television will ever do the books justice. It's always a shame when the folks in the entertainment industry butcher such wonderful stories. The book is marvelously written and beautifully illustrated by Gurney...to take an original idea and present it in such detail...wow. (he creates an entire society--maps, an alphabet, costumes, art, furniture, etc.) Never has a "children's" book captured my attention so much as Dinotopia. George Lucas, too, apparently was inspired by Gurney's world--you'll see a resemblance of scenes from Phantom Menace and the novels. I read the first three Dinotopia books and knew better not to tune in to the miniseries. Get the first book, and let me know what you think.
