I though it was MARTIN Yan.
------------------------------- justjones - 2003-12-15 18:42:18
You should work something in about Bjork. Or New York.
------------------------------- Andrew - 2003-12-15 18:42:21
Hmm, that's interesting, I just found some web pages that credit him as Martin and some as Stephen. There are a number of wok-related cookbooks under each of the names, maybe he uses 2 different names, or has a brother, or there are 2 wok guys with Yan as a last name? I'd delve more but I am lazy.
------------------------------- deanna - 2003-12-15 19:02:28
Yan means "wok cooker" in Chinese.
------------------------------- regan - 2003-12-15 19:10:23
how about one that says hobbits make me smorgasborgasm?
------------------------------- Tricia - 2003-12-15 20:32:14
You didn't like Jon from Survivor either? I'm happy he didn't win. I like the Sweedish Chef. He's one of my fave. characters on "The Muppet Show".
------------------------------- Deanna...but a different deanna than the one above - 2003-12-15 20:41:13
Orcs taste like liver.
------------------------------- Cathie - 2003-12-15 21:25:09
Yeah man.. down with John! That guy looked like a crazy porn star gone bad. Seriously, what was up with his hair?

Hey Andrew.. just wondering.. why dont you have like a badass look for your diary?.. I mean.. its too plain. I've found that a lot of your entries are funny.. you should reflect that more with your diary's skin.. just a thought.. by the way.. how old are u??.. :) *doesn't expect to get an answer*
------------------------------- alex - 2003-12-15 22:00:16
andrew isn' t fettered by things like layouts and ... and... age. dude, andrew is a rock star. he is ageless. a representation of bad ass attractive youth. actually, you should reflect that with your diary' s layout, andrew. the badass rockstar part, i mean. though, the cool part is, you can tell everyone you designed most of the layouts on diaryland. i don' t make up this badass rockstar stuff.
------------------------------- Martin Yan - 2003-12-15 23:24:06
It was in Canada that Martin Yan's potential as a congenial and entertaining TV chef was first spotted. (He shouldn't be confused with Stephen Yan of CBC TV's Wok with Yan fame, however.)
------------------------------- Cathie (but different from the one above) - 2003-12-15 23:30:33
Wasn't it "Yan Can Cook"? I used to watch it with my mum.
------------------------------- Melissa - 2003-12-16 00:00:32
Dude.. I would have had to vomit if Jon won. Someone should have slapped that hair off of him, though. Shouldn't he know better?
------------------------------- hi - 2003-12-16 02:46:42
martin yan is from yan can cook. stephen yan is the wok show.
------------------------------- Sera - 2003-12-16 07:46:22
You're watching the extended editions of the first two LOTR movies, right? I plan on watching those for days on end...
------------------------------- metanoia - 2003-12-16 08:50:35
Who doesn't hate Orcs? Maybe John from Survivor is an orc in a disguise - and not a good disguise either. How could all those other people stand him? Why did they keep on with him? I would have voted him out the very first chance I got!
------------------------------- Patrick - 2003-12-16 09:19:11
Regarding the comment about the look of your site: Andrew, don't change a thing. Your site isn't about bells and whistles or links to Paris Hilton videos. It's about content. You're like the New Yorker. They could have slicker covers than cartoons with dogs wearing top hats, but they know the words tell the whole story. You are the internet New Yorker. Don't bow to the pressure of this Saddam-less society.

You know how the Orcs make pig-like noises? Ya know what I'm saying? Well, here you go for another t-shirt idea: "Uckfay Orcsay". Pig Latin. <3 (You're welcome.)
------------------------------- dirk - 2003-12-16 15:17:29
what the hell's an orc?
------------------------------- hitme - 2003-12-17 23:26:00
orcs are dorks, but orcas ain't dorcas :D they're killers!
------------------------------- Amy - 2003-12-18 22:35:45
I disagree with Patrick. There should be more links to Paris Hilton videos.
------------------------------- kim - 2003-12-19 01:38:58
osama bin farting...i'm dyin', dyin' ova here!
------------------------------- wench77 - 2003-12-20 05:06:53
Thanks to "hi" for clearing up the Yan question... yay for Wok with Yan! My French Canadian boyfriend at the time was obsessed with that show and even cooked his fried eggs in a wok. Wok with Yan rules! (god I love it when someone mentions 80's tv... I know NOTHING about 90's or 00's tv!!) Thankyou Andrew! And I havent been here before so thankyou for Diaryland. And thanks to onewetleg for sending me here! :)
------------------------------- stephanie - 2003-12-24 22:13:25
that Andrew/ New Yorker analogy is pretty priceless. I love you Andrew, I think you're a complete genius, merry christmas.
------------------------------- Rocket - 2003-12-28 21:11:37
ROTFLMAO!!!
------------------------------- donnie - 2004-01-02 21:53:51
Those slogans are hilarious! I don't think that I could watch LOTR over and over again though. I love all of the movies, but it is amazing that I managed to sit still long enough to take them all in. That just goes to show you that a fantastic story can captivate those with the shortest of attention spans. But now I'm ready for Loony Tunes. I love that Daffy Duck. And Pork Pig, too. Hope you enjoyed your movies--and your holidays.

Stats don't lie, right? Was that really you clicking through on a banner ad? What an honor!
------------------------------- Diane from Spore - 2004-01-06 03:43:04
Never before I read something so simple yet so funny, something that everybody can relate to, there is none of that endless links and stuff, just good old funny diary... I love reading them and the comments that people added are funny too!!
------------------------------- Fyre - 2004-01-14 21:16:22
Stumbled across your diary via your banner. Hilarious. I have a friend who is absolutely obsessed with LOTR. I may have to direct her to this diary.
------------------------------- Cecilia - 2004-01-28 00:46:51
First, Yan is a real chinese last name, it doesn't mean anything like "wok cooker". Second, "Yan can cook" hosts by Martin Yan is started in a much later time than "Wok with Yan" by Stephen Yan in the 70s. I donno if they are brothers but they don't look like brothers to me... Btw... I am a chinese who can read, write and speak fluently, so trust me the word YAN is a real last name!! not "wok cooker"!
