It doesn't happen when I leave the window open but it does happen when I stay up all night. You do know that a sore throat is step one in the formation of a cold. I say suck down that zinc... it really helps.
Sara / 2002-06-01 09:39:39Yeah, that actually happens to me a lot, especially if the air is really dry. Also, "Here I go again" was my class song when I graduated high school. Not that I am proud of it, it's just weird.
Olivia / 2002-06-01 10:05:47Andrew--Cold or not, an open window is just a glaring invitation for the throat fairies to set up camp in your esophagus. I should know. I've been a throat fairy since before Nam. I'm actually posting this frm Rod Stewart's throat. I've been down here for a while as you can probably tell from his perma-scratchy voice. They're probably down there in your throat right now playing horseshoes or frisbee, laughing about how dumb you were to leave the window open. They'll get tired of your throat in a few days, but next time, try to have a little more common sense. Richie, P.T.F.
Richie / 2002-06-01 10:45:10throat fairies and buggies. did you know that you swallow something like 300 bugs a year roughly? when you sleep with your mouth open and you wake up because you felt a tickle - that's a spider crawling down into what it thinks is a deep, dark, moist cavern, but it's actually your throat. maybe that's why your throat hurts - all the neighborhood spiders came crawling in last night. hee-hee....
violet / 2002-06-01 10:51:15the spider thing is a myth! don't listen, Andrew! wait...it was YOUR diary that I read that in, wasn't it? hm. oh well.
Pam / 2002-06-01 11:17:07Yesh. Cold dry air reaks havocs on my already ravaged airways. I wish I could afford a humidifier and some vicks steam treatment shite......
Mach / 2002-06-01 11:31:40I have one as I type! It happens to me with the fan, not the open window though. Or maybe I sleep with my mouth open? I wouldn't advise that + an open window. Yikes, dude.
tricky / 2002-06-01 11:36:52I usually only get sore throats if I sleep with the window open when the weather is changing. I try to keep some Chloraseptic cough drops on hand whenever possible; I find they do the trick for me. Zinc (which I think someone else has already mentioned) and Vitamin C are supposed to be good, too.
Lauren / 2002-06-01 11:47:43Yep it happens to me all the time
April / 2002-06-01 12:55:13It might just be caused by allergies.
pseudomuffin / 2002-06-01 14:27:36yup... me too. and if i have wet hair when i go to sleep, or the weather changes, or i am around anyone's germ carrying kid, or i leave air conditioning into a dry heat, or.., or..(but it's a half ass sore throat. just enough to ache and bug me for a couple days without ever really turning into anything.)
lacynoyes / 2002-06-01 15:01:02Yes. I have often had that happen. It really stinks. well, sorry to hear that u woke up cruddy, but I will say it well..Get Well...(if u still are sore throated). TTYL!! Stokly
Stokly / 2002-06-01 16:01:53here i go again on my own...going down the only road i've ever known..like a drifter i was born to walk alone...thanks andrew..that's almost as bad as that time you got 'what if god was one of us' in my head. yeah..the throat thing happens to me when i have the air up too high also. Lori
Lori / 2002-06-01 16:49:49yeah, the same thing happens to me... and thanks andrew, now i will be singing that song for three days as well. they played it at our may day assembly while all the little freshman girlies danced around the penis may pole.
betticola / 2002-06-01 17:28:14If your neighbour just got a chemical lawn treatment, maybe you were huffing on that all night. That'll make you nice an' raspy, especially if you breathe through your mouth while you sleep. (Not that I'm making assumptions here about how civilised you are.) But breathing through your mouth while you sleep is dangerous business.
Erin / 2002-06-01 19:04:50Yeah yeah sore throat. Happens to me too. But what's even better is that when I got home tonight there was a frog AND a toad sitting outside my house! Oh it was sweet. The frog was soft and silky and the frog was sticky and rude.
Zeekster / 2002-06-01 22:00:26Andrew, just so you know, your music is so cute I'm downloading it all! It's all MINE! Mwuhahahahaa...ok so maybe I'll share...
larsonkitty / 2002-06-02 03:30:36I get sore throats quite often when I leave a window open... and wanna hear something even weirder? If I drink a soda right before I go to bed (Yes, I'm strange that way), I can actually taste it the next day! O_O;;
Eliseth / 2002-06-02 09:55:04You're never more than three feet away from a spider. And the fresh air from the window is humid, thus making your sinus drain into your throat, thus making your throat sore. Goin' down the only road I've ever known. That was my friend's high school class song.
Colleen / 2002-06-02 13:29:31ya the sore throat thing always happens to me when I sleep with the window open.
andina / 2002-06-02 18:05:54Don't be silly! Babies, babies, babies. Funny diary! -Lala
Lala, silly! / 2002-06-02 20:09:38Andrew, the sore throat could be caused by allergies, or like Colleen suggested by draining sinuses.
WitchMedic / 2002-06-02 20:30:05Sometimes I get a sore throat when I gargle tapioca...I hope I spelled that right. Speaking of which, what kind of sick freak eats tapioca? I think it should be changed from being called tapioca to "Snot of the Gods." Yeah.
mick / 2002-06-02 22:53:14That sore throat thing sucks. I always got it when I lived in Toronto as well. I think it's from the humidity because since I've moved to San Diego I don't get it anymore. So, in summary, Canada loses points for the high humidity and frequent bear maulings.
Renton / 2002-06-03 12:28:21The sore throat is caused by you not giving me a free SuperGold membership, hahah.
milky / 2002-06-03 16:37:19"you're never more than three feet away from a spider". oh god! I live in a basement, an unfinished basement. yesterday I caught and flushed a spider, a scary spider with long furry legs. last night my roomie left the window, which is directly above my bed, wide open. so wide open, in fact, that I was unable to get up on time for work this morning, cause of the frosty conditions outside the warmth of my covers. I, too, have a sore throat. and now I'm convinced it's because the relatives of that flushed spider came to have the funeral in my lungs. today's my birthday. I hope they don't come back to celebrate that!
Jets / 2002-06-03 16:53:43you think that's a bad song? try singing phil collin's invisible touch for four days straight.. but only knowing the chorus. my co-workers have hits out on me.
postclarity / 2002-06-03 22:22:07i got a cold too and it's getting on my nerves right now. i try to sing (i'm a singer. but not famous yet.) and my voice gets all raspy. damn i hate when this happens
evelynalmasy / 2002-06-04 05:40:03It could be worse. I actually saw Whitesnake live when I was 17. And I caught Adrian Vandenberg's pick. I thought I was the shit. Now I know, I was just shit.
goose springsteen / 2002-06-04 08:23:37I'd have to say it happens to me, but of course I sleep buried upder covers with a fan blowing right on me. I'd love to say more, but I've gotta go attempt to make money.
Rose / 2002-06-04 15:26:02Haha. I just wrote an entry about that song (http://astralounge.diaryland.com/giddyblaise.html). I listened to it today and it's stuck in my head now too. And yes, I get sore throats with the window open.
Blaise / 2002-06-04 21:59:02Yes! That happens to me every single time. I think it has something to do with the air and the way it circulates...who knows...but god do I hate when that happens : /
Liz / 2002-06-04 22:29:25that happens to me *all* the time. I think it happens more with people who have allergies, and even more so if you have a stuffy/runny nose the day before. It's happened to me many times... I do hope it's normal ^^ *stares at her now open window* oh well...
lis / 2002-06-05 02:00:40my throat gets sore too. so do my nostrils. if you get a humidifier (small ones arent'too expensive), then that should help.
monica / 2002-06-05 10:19:47YES! Finally I can leave notes for you, telling you how freaky cute you are, and basically, stalking you in an all round obssessive manner. Where the hell were you that plays 'here I go again on my own'? Shit that's a bad one. I only reccomend this in the most dire of circumstances, as it holds its own not unconsiderable amount of danger, but, you may have to sing the macarena to yourself. That fucking wretchedness will overtake any other music in your head, everytime, without fail. Just be careful. This isn't playstuff, its potent shit. Best of luck. Pix
Pix / 2002-06-05 13:30:52Yes, the window open sore-throat phenom happens to me. Also happens with the A/C. And by the way I have had that Titanic song stuck in my for like 3 years.
Chad / 2002-06-05 13:39:32you are so not alone on the throat thing. it happens to me all of the time. not even with the window open or the fan on. blurph to to messed up throats for the first two hours of the day :o
BlueStarLoser / 2002-06-06 01:22:00andy panda, forget about the cold, it is a trivial matter. braineating zombies are what should be concerning you! the living dead that will rip at your flesh! you should be feverishly sawing wood with your table saw to cover your windows and nail them shut securely, so that them zombies won't be able to get into your home and, you know...! and the mounted police? ha! they won't be helping you, they'll have hightailed it for the yukon! zombies! zombies! oh, and zinc lozenges and echiacea are a fine way to keep that nasty cold at bay. good luck, mr. andrew.
zachary smith, aboard the jupiter 2 / 2002-06-06 02:43:47excuse me while I snort that last sip of wine through my nose and then wipe up the keyboard. ANyway, before that I was going to say, Don't worry about the sore throat, some people get 'em, some people (the lucky ones like me who live in Maine and leave their windows open all the time from May through September) don't, but I'm rooting for the stalker up there! Go true love! I'm very very old myself, so I have Partridge Family songs running through my head, everyone make sympathy noises for me please, it clearly means I can never have sex again.
Janet / 2002-06-06 20:36:22Always happens to me, whne I sleep with the window open, or the fan or air conditioner on.
diana128 / 2002-06-10 21:57:00It happens to me too, Andrew! It sucks.
Trish / 2002-06-20 20:43:27Yes true. Had that last week. Meet me commenting ur other entries too.
Jade / 2002-06-29 11:11:35Listen guys...Zinc, Ginger root, and plenty of water works best for the nightly singer. keep your window closed and try a nasal decongestant. although decongestants have a rep for drying out your throat. Drink water at roon temp. Zinc tablets are available almost anywhere and are good to suck in throughout the day. I like green tea with ginger root, this seems to have a soothing effect and opens up the pathways of sound. Get rest people and warm up those chords before you tour or open up for say......Wide mouth mason, Brian adams or the Bare naked ladies. CHEERS!!
