And I know that maybe some people are going to write here that the Atkins diet is bad, but don't worry, I doubt I can really do it long anyhow. But my doctor said he was skeptical forever too but then read in a bunch of medical journals and stuff how it may be great.
andrew / 2003-06-20 01:40:48I like bacon.
Trina / 2003-06-20 01:42:22Ahh the Atkins diet. I tried it recently and I fainted on the fourth day. Apparently my body NEEDS sugar and carbs to function. Hah. Damn that Atkins guy. But don't let that discourage you!!! ;) Heehee.
Christay / 2003-06-20 01:44:45And yeah, what's with that Atkins Diet being okay/healthy suddenly? Best of luck to you, Andrew. And to clarify, I can't imagine microwave bacon tasting good, and non-fat or vegetarian or turkey bacon stuff is gross.
Trina / 2003-06-20 01:45:01Yeah, apparently there's proof it's an okay diet now or something. And you know, the more I think about this, the more i think the problem is it being microwave bacon. Works nice in a sandwich, but crappy on it's own.
andrew / 2003-06-20 01:48:41Boo, the Atkins Diet. But health comes first. So I hope that it goes well for you. Andrew don't cheat the stupid diet. Much < love 3 and be good. =)
Jenny / 2003-06-20 01:58:29Yeah, another weird thing...I heard on this local public radio thingy recently that among the good fats, like the fat in avocadoes, almonds, etc, the fat in bacon is good for you. Who knew?
Trina / 2003-06-20 02:05:51yo i heard atkins diet is sooo bad for you. and that a lot of the findings that it's healthy aren't true at all. people can survive without sugar only because they can still get it from their carbs. but no carbs? that sounds fishy to me.
sarah / 2003-06-20 02:20:48I was going to rant about the Atkins diet, but that's been done. So may I just say...I can't wait for a state to legalize carbohydrate marriage, because I'm tooootally in love with them.
Cathie / 2003-06-20 02:35:05I want to marry coffee. I propose to her every morning. She always says yes.
Trina / 2003-06-20 02:46:44I think there are a lot of things on both sides on whether it's good for you or not, but it's actually not a NO carbs diet, it's a low carbs thing, the book does say you can eat them I think (I've skimmed it so far). I'm the biggest anti-diet skeptic in the world, but it seems to be fairly sound, you still eat vegetables, some carbs, etc. etc. Basically all the things it has told me to cut out of my diet is all the bad stuff, there hasn't really been one thing yet that I'm going like "oh wait, I really have to cut out that? That's crazy!". I'm not saying it's amazing, but I am just really surprised so far with how sane it is compared to what I thought it would be after just hearing 3rd party hearsay about it for a while.
andrew / 2003-06-20 02:51:24Even with your odd bacon stories, I'm still obsessed with you and it's still my goal to get in your pants one day. xo.
kimmie / 2003-06-20 03:46:31i hate bacon
ella / 2003-06-20 05:04:40haha, somebody wrote in your comments that she fainted because of the atkin's diet!! hahahaha!!!!!
derwin / 2003-06-20 05:41:42There are other ways of eating that reduce carbs but aren't quite as radical as Atkins - check out The Carbohydrate Addicts Lifestyle Plan or The Schwarzbein Principle, esp. if you appreciate understanding the science behind why unrestricted carbs makes you sick (insulin resistance, etc.)
Subversive / 2003-06-20 09:54:55My 6 year old son was just recently diagnosed with diabetes, so we're learning how to count carbs. BUT one thing we've learned is...you have to have carbs in order for your body/mind to function properly!
ewb / 2003-06-20 10:16:31So I was sitting here reading your entry while scarfing down a big bag of double-stuffed Oreo's thinking I could never stick to a diet like that. Andrew, I'm proud of you, your a stronger man then I am. Though its maybe because I'm a girl...
damik / 2003-06-20 10:51:45what happens with the atkins thing is you starve yourself for a few days with no carbs/sugars so then your body goes into a shock state and then takes what it needs from your already existant fat. something like that. i pretty much did that to myself without atkins to lead me. thats what it does.
Amy / 2003-06-20 11:46:55The pigs need to be "deliciouser" eh? Hehe. Poor Andrew. And yes, the Atkins diet is a scam, if it's meant for losing weight, because one will just gain it all back the moment they stop regulating themselves to it. I haven't heard of it being a scam, though, if it's for health purposes. I'm sure that quack of a doctor learned something in that decade or so of higher education.
Doug / 2003-06-20 11:57:01Oh, and the best food on the planet is crispy bacon with melted cheese on top between two pieces of toasted and buttered white bread. I'm a vegetarian, but I can dream, no?
Doug / 2003-06-20 11:59:49have you tried turkey bacon? i love it. booo to pork!
dara / 2003-06-20 12:02:13Hi Andrew - wait until you start dreaming about cake. I did that the night before the first day I ever tried Atkins! I've never in my life made it past the 4th day because I don't like to eat meat so the only meat I can stand is the stuff that is so processed (bacon, sausage, etc) that I can convince myself it isn't a dead animal. But 4 days of that along with copious amounts of cheese and I feel pretty sick. So best of luck to you but really if you simply cut out white flour and white sugar but still eat complex carbs and lots of fruits and veggies, you'l see a big change. Best of luck!
Dana / 2003-06-20 12:06:18my father went on the atkins diet and lost a good amount of weight, he looks a lot better now. however, i hear that diet is bad for your heart...:-/(?)
Liz / 2003-06-20 13:30:27Hey! I have this disease that makes me unable to eat wheat, barley, oats, and rye. So basically... no bread, pasta, cake, cookies, salad dressing, gravies, marinades, etc... EVER! I have to live like this or I'll get cancer and die... so yeah, I'm peachy on this diet. Just make sure you take a multi-vitamin. You'll be fine. Good luck. Stay strong. All the foods you think you can't have, you can get them at the health food store made with rice/potato/tapioca flours, and you can eat those in moderation. Pretty much everything that says "gluten-free"... you'll be fine (in moderation). So yeah... good luck. It is possible. Just get past the first week or two. You can do it! :)
reyanna / 2003-06-20 14:25:38what sucks is that i could tell you about eighty super yummy snacks involving bready sugary things... and none involving meat. bacon is gross. unless it's bacon bits on a salad. and then it's only good in mod-er-a-tion. (learned that the hard way, G.)
Wonderchai / 2003-06-20 14:39:54atkins diet, eh ? i was thinking of trying that...
stephanie / 2003-06-20 15:14:00Oh, man. I could not live without carbs. There are a whole bunch of foods I can't eat due to allergies so for me to decide not to eat a certain food would be just crazy and unhealthy ( I learned this the hard way after 10 years of being a vegetarian, know I eat whatever I can without causing an allergic reaction). I just try tio keep an eye on fat and cholesterol. Not a huge fan of bacon, too salty and fatty, try turkey bacon. Mmmm. crispy and tasty. Good luck :)
politika / 2003-06-20 15:21:15Ok, for all its worth, I was on it for a long time, I lost ALOT of weight. I did go off of it, but it was only cuz we couldn't afford all the meat. When I was cringing for carbs I would have a diet rootbeer with cream.. yeah I went over board with that mixture. I would say oh just a little, then just a little more. I must say though that I did have alot more energy and I did feel better on it. I had those bars that they sell in the store that say atkins and omg those were a god send. The only bad thing is that they taste awful if you usually have sugar, but when deprived its awsome. Actually after I went off the diet I didnt want sugar. I may have had half a candy bar, or something, but too much and I was soo high off sugar. There was a problem I did have later and that was my gallbladder. I had to have it out and I don't know if it was the diet or just how i ate before. It was almost an emergency thing cuz it was about to burst and the doc said that he had Never seen one so bad in all his 30 years of being a surgeon. So becareful. Oh and just so ya know I was the diabetic that left a message before. Later I went to a nutristianist and she said that its not good to rule out foods and that as long as you have a little here and a little there its ok. Besides, everyone is different and that means how we digest and take nutriants in so just be careful its the only body you have. sorry for the long post. Lata!
Angel / 2003-06-20 17:03:30You're great, man....
emily / 2003-06-20 18:58:09have you been wormed lately?
mel / 2003-06-20 21:19:42It takes 21 days to form a habit. So, Andrew, all you have to do it keep this up for 21 days and you're home free! Good luck! I tried to excercise for 21 days but gave up after five...so hopefully you have more will power than me :) I'm rooting for ya!
Jenny / 2003-06-20 22:05:51there are some mighty delicious pepperonis out there.
iooi / 2003-06-21 03:58:05i really like crunchy bacon. weird diet, but meat usually makes me really sick. Dont you feel like going to the beach, i do. I need to be in a diet too. ciao ps. how did you get this comment thingy?? i like it.
cristina / 2003-06-21 05:26:09Bacon is murder!!!11 Actually I have nothing against bacon, but it's a coincidence that I stumbled across your journal when I did. I was going through my old favourites when I came across one for a butterfly riding a unicorn. Anyway I decided to check out some of the other entries and you keep a very entertaining journal :) (The coincidence part is that my dad started the atkins diet yesterday, and seeing the word 'atkins' is what caught my eye and made me read on... I'm glad I did!)
Tim / 2003-06-21 11:53:46i've heard a lot of good things about the atkins diet, but i've never tried it or anything. but i know that there's a loooot of different diets and stuff that say that bready stuff and carbs aren't good for you. i'm a vegetarian, but i don't think that eating meat is bad. i've never in my life had bacon, and i've only been a vegetarian for a few years. so i don't know much about that. anyway, i say go for the atkins diet! for awhile at least. be strict at first, but then after awhile it probably wouldn't hurt to slack off some. just eat bread and sugary stuff in moderation.
andrea / 2003-06-21 13:27:58I was on the Adkins diet recently, for two weeks. I lost 6 pounds in my first week, but near the end of the second week I ended up getting really sick. My boyfriend was really concerned and didn't want me on the diet anymore and blah, blah, blah. It isn't so bad once you get used, good luck, Andrew.
Adriana / 2003-06-21 17:30:10And yet, somehow bacon really suits your personality. Go figure.
Amy / 2003-06-21 20:03:29Have courage..I ahve a friend who's been on the Atkins diet for a couple months and after the first bit is over, it gets better...don't worry! Good Luck
ali=^;^= / 2003-06-22 02:07:14my dick needs to go on the Atkins diet, because it's so fat and long!
harsh / 2003-06-22 15:58:49i have one question who would be able to live without sugar? i mean think about it sugar that's like number one product in my book and don't eat to much bacon it gets very grose after a while *sudders* well byes
lady-dra / 2003-06-22 20:38:47haha, harsh, haha... lol
Jill / 2003-06-23 18:03:42atkins is good. i'm getting hot thanks to the atkins diet. you, too, can be hot. stick with it. it's not bad. and if anyone says otherwise, well, i will out-hot every nay-sayer any day of the week. :)
skampy / 2003-06-23 18:10:45girl other things can make you hott besides a diet try volleyball see how hot you get :p hehe but really come on there are other things that can make you hott i mean go in a sauna
lady-dra / 2003-06-24 00:12:21it takes 10 weeks to develop a habit, NOT 21 days. atkins diet sucks. you will lose muscle, not fat. have you tried eating in moderation and exercising?
patti / 2003-06-24 12:59:00yes i agree with patti excercise do some that will make you loose fat and give you muscles so yeah do some sports
lady-dra / 2003-06-26 01:02:17hiya, are you ever going to put a picture of you on here? i think a lot of people would like that. :D. No one will stalk u, i promise!!!!! pleeeaassseeee? ~Lexi
Lexi / 2003-06-26 02:29:36you sound GAY! why in the world would you sit at home on your fat ass and write this shit. get a life, or get laid
nasheena / 2003-06-26 03:11:16Hi, speaking of the Atkins diet I decided to give it a go after some extensive research. Unlike the comments above I though it would be beneficial to wade through all the bad advice (see above) and half-truths before committing To put things into perspective I work out 5 days a week and lead a very active lifestyle and no, Im not fat.I will say this about the dietCHRIST!!!!! I love carbs..brownies and cookies and pastries.etc. Talk about cold turkey, this really sucks. Now I know what a heroin addict feels like. But, my God, was my body that dependent of junk food?.............and only after three days? OY!!!! Three days into this thing and Im ready to eat a box of crispy creams. I have pretty good willpower but this will be a true test. My goal.three months and evaluate the results. If Im not ripped screw it. If you read about a guy ODing on crispy creams.
russg / 2003-06-26 12:43:45haha, i agree with everything russg just said, so true.
andrew / 2003-06-26 13:13:18Didn't Atkins die recently? Yeah, I think that's what I heard. High cholesterol or something and highly obese. It seems that his lifestyle of the low-carb was too hard even for him to follow. I, myself, have tried it, and it is quite an adjustment I would have to say, BUT if you follow the guidelines, it WILL work for you. Trust me. Not everyone was meant for that type of "lifestyle change". That's what they call it. Not a diet. Good luck to you.
Stacey / 2003-06-26 15:13:40Atkins fell while walking and broke his hip or something, he was very old. This is typical of the misinformation on these comments.
Jon / 2003-06-26 15:17:37well i don't eat junkfood that much. i have is like a bag of chips and that's like in a month. eat fruit people it taste better then junk food. i swear like eat a peach or something. but i agree russ too but eat fruit! it's good
lady-dra / 2003-06-26 15:18:05I'm a guy at 23 from HK....I happened to get to ur diary today and it rocks!!!!!! the ATkins thing..I ain;t sure if it works as well as it claims.. but I have gone from 230lbs to 140lbs now and i think vutting carbs a bit does help.. but dun cut all.. wholebread and brown rice..which r good for u on the path of fittness and health
Beauty Freak / 2003-06-27 02:12:47"Like tonight, around 11pm I got pretty hungry, and you know what the only thing I could find to snack on that the Atkins diet says is okay was? Bacon! Isn't that crazy, bacon? I mean come on, bacon! Bacon. No really, bacon. Whatup with that bacon, bacon! Bacon bacon." you amuse me. greatly. and i agree, cows are deliciouser than pigs.
miss britta / 2003-06-29 15:00:15if you're not a pork lover now, you'd definently be one with my mom's cooking :)
unika / 2003-06-29 20:16:07hey! I was reading your entry on the atkins diet (which i started again today) and I just wanted to say it really does work! Just don't eat under 30 carbs a day. about 3 weeks ago I at no more then 5 carbs a day and I lost 7 pounds in a week but I got -really- sick. So just be careful and take vitamins with it! thats soo important. stay strong and dont let those carbs get the best of you! :)
xFelinityx / 2003-06-30 00:19:38BACON! Wait, I hate bacon.... I dunno, I think its too greasy..... weird? nah..... BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCON! who has kandy? I HAVE KANDY! lalalalalallalala KANDY KANDY KANDY KANDY! (no im not a little 10 yr old)
Zorro / 2003-07-01 21:29:48I just heard this great idea about putting slices of bacon on a McDonald's Filet-O-Fish! So maybe without the bread? Also bacon and baby cows, as long as you don't feed them cow brains before :D
Zoltran's Carapace / 2003-07-03 00:11:01I laughed.
Lee / 2003-07-04 05:33:00"Pigs: Seriously, I am very disappointed with you guys, why can't you be deliciouser, like cows." Amen. Beef will forever dominate the meats.
Tiffany / 2003-07-05 23:41:09so hows the diet goin? from teh blabbing from family members ive heard it seems im gonna give it a whirl.
Mark / 2003-07-09 19:27:37But... how can you be on a high protein diet if you won't even eat shrimp or eggs? What's up with that?!
~chris / 2003-07-22 14:27:22andrew: The Atkins diet works, and it doesn't feel like a diet! Yes, it is hard for the first 4 days, while that sugar gets out of your system, but after that you will feel great. Here's what I did, and my whole family is down an average of 20 pounds each. Clean your cupboards of processed food and sugar. Donate, throw away, give to friends, whatever. Shop for the week. You can buy the tasty, high fat cheap cuts of meat. I cut up and saute almost everything now since I can eat BUTTER. A good variety of seasonings is a big help. Buy prepared packages of salad greens/spinach, sprinkle them liberally with whatever you like, i.e. cheese, sunflower seeds, meat chunks. Then plop great spoonfuls of your low carb, high fat favorite dressing. Buy low carb veggies like broccoli and mound the melted cheese on top. For sweet stuff, sugar-free jello topped with whipped cream and walnuts is great. Also, about the bacon, cook it on top of layers of paper towels and it will come out crispy and not greasy. Snacks can be nuts, beef jerky and pork rinds. I KNOW you have the will power to stay through two weeks of this, the induction period. Don't cheat! After that you can start adding back carbs, but the funny thing is, you probably will start to add back carbs in the form of fruit...gold old non-pocessed, healthy fruit! Oh, and canned cherries on marshmallows don't count. Read the book...this diet works!!!
deannagraham / 2003-07-28 07:27:58I'm on the Atkins diet and it rocks! That bacon was microwave bacon, which is probably processed with nitrates and has hidden carbs or sugar (check the label). The whole point of Atkins' philosophy is that you stay away from processed and so-called 'low fat' foods which are loaded with complex carbs and trans-fats which are bad for you and you eat wholesome unprocessed foods - just like our ancestors. This means meat, eggs, cheese and green veg. Get the proper prime cuts of bacon, full fat and all. Don't eat ketchup or syrup, eat full fat mayonnaise (79% fat, 0 carbs). Try frying some eggs next to your bacon and have a bit of mature cheese like premium brie or roquefort. Add some salad greens and baby spinach, yum yum. I love this diet. I'm never hungry. Giving up sugar was easy for me since I never used sugar or liked sugary foods. I don't crave for anything now, not even coffee, bread, chocolate, beer or ice-cream. I had mild headaches on day 2 but that was due to cutting out caffeine. One headache tablet fixed that. My favourite tipple is single-malt whisky anyway and it has 0 carbs so I can drink it after my induction phase, yeay! The important thing is not to forget getting some supplemental pills for multivitamins, magnesium, phosphorus and calcium (but not iron). If you don't cheat the diet, you'll see huge benefits. If you cheat the diet, you'll have eaten lots of fat *AND* carbs, which means your body will continue to burn the glucose sugared from the carbs and store that fat as excess energy reserves - which means you'll put on weight!!! So don't cheat.
Eren / 2003-09-19 17:58:57This must be a trend with doctors or something because mine did the same thing! It's called the No Amylose Diet, which is basically the same as Atkins and for someone who's favorite food is cake, it drove me crazy for the first couple of weeks. I've been on it for almost three months now and I've gotten a lot better, although I do have the occasional sugar/carb craving. Good luck!
